Hi, my names Rhys Jones, I’m 22 and I’m from the sunny Central Coast of NSW. I’m a freelance photographer who specialises in DSLR and Drone Nature photography.
I started photography when I was around 14. I remember setting up a tripod with some mates, with a Nikon point-and-shoot, doing some long exposure shots. We patiently waited, and were blown away by the results. Safe to say, from that day forward I was hooked!
Fast forward to today, and I am currently using a Canon 6D Mark II and DJI Mavic Pro as my running gear for day to day images and short videos.
I draw my inspiration from the natural world more than anything - I find it to be a meditation of sorts, it’s just good for the mind and good for the soul.
There’s something about photographing nature that just allows you to really immerse yourself in the moment. Something as simple as a mountain range, actually took millions of years of development, and I’m lucky enough to be able to capture its’ beauty in a single image.
I travelled to Europe 3 years ago, and found a new enjoyment in focussing on sustainability and humans interacting with nature. We have much to learn about the way Europe integrated their architecture with their geographic surroundings.
Something that I feel extremely strongly about, and regularly donate my profits to is the ‘Take 3 For The Sea’ and urge any and all followers to give what they can to this fantastic initiative.
In the future, I am planning to undertake some bucket list photography expeditions, particularly New Zealand and Iceland. With the current climate surrounding the global pandemic, I think all nature lovers are finding it tough to stay inside and not get out and about however it’s a necessary sacrifice. It’s a sacrifice that we must make to allow humanity to heal, and as a by-product allow mother nature to heal herself, as we are already seeing in areas such as the Venice Canals.
